Ice Cream + Fresh-Baked Treats: A Pretty Great Combination

A scoop of ice cream surrounded by fresh baked donuts and pastries

Ice cream is great on its own. Fresh-baked treats are great on their own. Put them anywhere near each other, though, and something better happens. It's one of those combinations that doesn't need to be explained to anyone who's ever had it.

Scoops & Giggles is an ice cream shop and a bakery, and that wasn't an accident. It's the whole idea.

Cold and warm is a better contrast than sweet and sweet

The reason the pairing works isn't just that both things are sweet. It's contrast. Cold against warm. Smooth against a little bit of crumb or chew. Your mouth notices the difference, and that difference is what keeps a bite interesting all the way through.

The same principle is why a cone works better than a cup for a lot of people. That crisp edge gives the ice cream something to push against.

Bakery treats bring texture, ice cream brings the melt

A good baked treat has structure — layers, edges, a little bit of resistance. Ice cream has none of that, on purpose. It softens, it spreads, it fills in the gaps. Together, one holds its shape and the other doesn't, and that push and pull is most of the fun.

It also means neither one has to do all the work. A small scoop next to something fresh out of the oven often lands better than a giant serving of either.

Fresh matters more than fancy

You don't need an elaborate dessert to get this right. What you need is something made recently. Baked goods are honest that way — freshness is immediately obvious and impossible to fake. That's the reason bakeries smell the way they do and why the morning is such a good time to walk into one.

We bake, we brew coffee and espresso drinks, and we hand-dip ice cream. What's out on the counter shifts with the day, which is part of the appeal of a small shop. You can see the general categories on our menu section; what's actually in the case is a bit of a happy surprise.

Sweet treats in Limon, Colorado — no need to choose

Plenty of towns have an ice cream place or a bakery. Having both in one room means you can follow whatever mood you walked in with. Coffee and something fresh in the morning. A scoop in the afternoon. Both, if it's been that kind of week.

If you're in or near Limon and looking for a bakery, ice cream, or honestly just fifteen quiet minutes with something good, we're at 180 E Avenue downtown. Hours and directions live on the visit section, and day-to-day updates go up on our Facebook page.
