There's Always a Good Reason for Ice Cream

People sometimes apologize for wanting ice cream. As if a scoop requires paperwork. We'd like to formally put that to rest: the reasons are basically unlimited, and most of them are pretty small.

Here's a partial list, in no particular order.

You made it to Friday

The school week is over. The work week is over. Nobody has to pack a lunch tomorrow. That's a celebration whether or not anyone announces it, and it deserves more than a sigh on the couch.

Fridays after school are one of our favorite times in the shop. The energy level is noticeably higher.

It's warm out

Colorado afternoons have a way of building up until a cold thing in your hand feels like the only sensible response. This isn't indulgence, it's climate management. We're providing a service.

You're in the car anyway

Road trips have their own rules. Snacks that would be excessive at home are simply part of the journey. If you're driving through Limon and there's a scoop involved, that's just good trip planning.

Somebody had a birthday

Or an almost-birthday. Or a half-birthday. Or a good report card, a lost tooth, a first day, a last day. Kids keep track of these things far more carefully than adults do, and they're right to.

You wanted to see someone

Ice cream is a great excuse to sit across from a person for twenty minutes. Same goes for coffee — meeting a friend for something sweet is one of the easiest ways to actually catch up instead of meaning to.

It's Tuesday

Look, this is a real reason. Not everything has to be an occasion. Sometimes you want something sweet, and that's the whole story. The nice part about wanting it for no reason is that there's nothing to overthink.

Scoops & Giggles is a family-owned ice cream shop and bakery at 180 E Avenue in downtown Limon, Colorado. We hand-dip ice cream, we bake, and we pour coffee and espresso drinks. We're open Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 1 PM to 7 PM.
